More on the
Forest Hill Chapel
Preservation 2024-2025
Attica Landmark Preservation Society is raising funds to
restore the
historic
Chapel in Forest Hill Cemetery.
The Chapel was built in 1902, before funeral homes
were available, to provide a place for funerals and
memorials
to take place in the beautiful Forest Hill Cemetery,
and indeed, was built to be a focal point of the cemetery.
The local GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) is said to have requested the Chapel to
overlook
the graves of our Civil War veterans, and bestow a place to
honor them with military funerals.
Indeed the graves of our many veterans surround the Chapel to
this day.
It has been used for community gatherings, weddings,
and other social events such as Memorial Day, Veterans
Day celebrations
and much, much more.
The money
received will go toward restoration of the building
and
towards maintenance costs to preserve the structure
for
future generations to enjoy. It is a cultural icon of the Attica
and
surrounding communities, and the loss of such a one-of-a-kind
historic building would be devastating to one and all.
Any donation is welcome, and please share our website
page
to reach a wider audience.

We
have raised money to a new milestone! We still have a ways
to go.
Also: your bottle donations to Bengos bottle return
are still bringing
in much needed $$. Please take
your bottles to Bengos (inside) and
ask for the return
slips. Mark it for Attica Landmark and your
donations
will come to us!!
Thank you!
